Classes

Greetings from BeeNaked Bee Yard & Apiary,

 We appreciate your interest in wanting to know more about bees and entertaining the possibility of becoming a beekeeper.  We are offering “Next Steps” in Beekeeping in April on the following dates:  April 12 or 25 or 26.  Each class is the same and will be 3 – 4 hours in length and we try and limit the number of participants to 6 or less.  The class will include a classroom session as well as hands-on experience in the apiary.                                                                                                                                                                                                  Content will include but is not limited to:

The smoker (fuel and how to light and use), The life cycle of the three types of bees and their roles, how to work a hive, what to look for in a hive during an inspection, how to take notes, feeding bees, and pest management.   Participants will have an opportunity to do a hands-on hive inspection which will include identifying an egg, and different stages of larva, and resources in the hive.

This session will not include information on honey extraction or harvesting nor will it include oxalic acid vaporization demonstrations.

The cost is $25 per person and will include light honey snacks.  All participants must sign a waiver prior to entering the apiary.  Payment can be made (cash/credit/venmo), and waivers can be signed upon arrival to the class.

We ask that all participants bring their bee veil, bee jacket/suit and gloves if they have them.  Participants need to wear long sleeves if they do not have a jacket/suit, long pants and closed toed shoes. Please do not wear perfume or cologne.  We will not allow participants to enter the apiary unless they are properly dressed.  If you do not have a veil or gloves, we will have a few on hand you can borrow but if you have your own, please bring them!

If you are still interested, we ask that you respond with your first choice of dates and a second choice along with the number in your party.  We will do our best to honor your first choice but in trying to limit the number to six or less to give an optimum experience we may have to give you your second choice.

If for some reason these days (Friday and Saturdays) do not work for you, please let us know another weekday, that is better, and we will try to work with you.
